We all know that over-consumption of sugar and sweetened foods and drinks can lead to a host of health problems. These problems can include weight gain, heart disease, diabetes, dental issues, and more! But if you’re looking to cut back on sugar, you can still satisfy your sweet tooth with these 5 Easy Ways to Cut Sugar From Your Diet!

Stop drinking soda!

One of the easiest ways to cut sugar out of your diet is by omitting soda. But if you’re still craving something sweet and bubbly, drink sparkling water and seltzer instead. These zero calorie drinks will subside your cravings for carbonated beverages and sugary beverages!

You would be even better off with good, old fashioned water! If plain water just isn’t your thing, you can make delicious fruit infusions by adding things like sliced strawberries, lemons, and fresh mint to it.

Use natural sweeteners!

Replace table sugar with natural sweeteners like stevia, coconut sugar, monkfruit, yacon syrup, or honey. They’re just as sweet – if not sweeter – than regular sugar. You might have to look up measurement conversions for these sweeteners. For instance, a little stevia goes a long way in place of sugar, but it’s one of my favorite sugar replacements!

Try this Peach Lemonade with Fresh Mint for a refreshing, stevia-sweetened beverage, or dip into this Vegan Cashew Cookie Butter for a guilt-free treat!

Sweeten food with spices!

Spices are a great way to experiment with sugar alternatives while adding flavor to food and drinks. As shocking as it may seem to most coffee drinkers, I hardly ever sweeten my morning cup of Joe! But when I do, one of my favorite ways to sweeten it is with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. For my fellow PSL lovers, make it taste like fall every day with a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice!

Spices like cinnamon and ginger are also delicious sugar replacements. Try a sprinkle of cinnamon on top of your bowl of oatmeal or sliced grapefruit in the morning.

Eat fresh fruit!

Fruit contains natural sugars, but they’re much better for you than table sugar. This is because naturally occurring sugars in fruit also contain essential nutrients. Fruit is not only a great way to get your sweet snack fix, but it’s also a delicious way to sweeten food.

Try topping your oatmeal with a mix of almonds and berries, or slice up fruit and add it to a dish of plain yogurt!

Make your own salad dressings and sauces!

Sugar is hiding in places you wouldn’t even expect it – like bottled salad dressings and sauces. It’s so easy to whip up your own, like the Strawberry Balsamic Vinaigrette in this Mixed Berry Salad recipe!

Cutting out sugar is easier than you think! Just follow these simple tips for “sweet” success! We hope these simple sugar swaps from SoFabFood Home Chef, Jessica from Living la Vida Holoka help you in your quest for a happier, healthier you!
