Some meds that I take are labeled, "Do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice while taking this medication". Is there a substitute for the grapefruit in this recipe? Will a substitute change the nature of the salad or detox properties?

You can omit the grapefruit, and also consult your doctor about the grapefruit. A good substitute is tangerines or Clementines, half of which is insoluble fiber. That is what we are looking for.

I appreciated that this was very filling for a salad. It was a bit bitter to me, next time I'd switch to oranges, or use a mix of colorful sweet peppers and cucumber. It would be worth a few extra calories.
