Hello, I’m Joann of WomaninRealLife.com. Admittedly, I’d have trouble going through life without hummus. I eat it on toasted spelt bread, topped with tomato slices. It’s even a great dip for roasted cauliflower. I sometimes even eat hummus straight from the spoon. As addictions go, it’s a pretty good one. No harm done, and actually quite a few benefits.

Classic Hummus loaded with farmers market favorites!

The base of this Farmers Market Loaded Hummus is a classic blend of chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, cumin, and salt. Whip the ingredients together quickly in a food processor and you end up with a creamy and delicious spread perfect for smearing on toast or pairing with crackers.

To make this classic hummus recipe a guest-worthy appetizer, you need only grab some of your most-liked colorful and healthy toppings. For my Loaded Hummus, I went with a sprinkle of paprika, as well as chickpeas, red onion slices, baby cucumber slices, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, shredded lettuce, grape tomatoes, and fresh parsley. Simply spread the hummus on a serving platter and top with all the toppings! The dish becomes almost like a hearty salad. Scoop up a couple of tablespoons of the mixture and spread between two pieces of bread to make a delicious sandwich. Or serve to guests with a selection of crackers, carrot sticks, and cucumber slices.

Who doesn’t love a budget-friendly, easy appetizer?

Loaded Hummus is fast and easy to make, as well as being an affordable and healthy meal option. It’s perfect for after-school snacking or taking to a picnic. Soak and cook up a big batch of dry chickpeas rather than using canned for a super budget-friendly option. Visit my recipes section for more potluck-ready vegan recipes.

Loading up your hummus turns it into an even more healthful meal or party appetizer that is rich with protein and fiber, plant-based, and easy on the budget. This recipe is also suitable for so many people, including your vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free friends. At the same time, it’s a good, basic food that doesn’t scream alternative diet.
