Add a boost of healthy flavor to your weeknight meal with this budget-friendly side dish. Roasted Spicy Honey Brussels Sprouts can liven up any meal with only seven pantry staples and about 30 minutes!
Brussels Sprouts are one of those side dishes that you either love or you hate…or so I thought. I used to be one of those people that had absolutely no interest in them. That was until my sister convinced me to try coming up with a sweet and spicy version that was sure to make me a convert. She was right.
This budget-friendly side dish has become a staple in my family ever since I first made it a few years ago. Aside from the tedious motion of cutting and removing the damaged outer leaves, this recipe is a piece of cake and an easy side to your weeknight meal. Not only that, but it is super affordable. Chances are that with the exception of the sprouts, you already have the majority of the seasonings in your pantry.
I have a serious love for anything sweet and spicy. The combination is the perfect contradiction and I cannot get enough of it. From snacks, to side dishes, to mouthwatering sauces over a perfectly cooked hunk of meat – sweet and spicy works for just about anything. Brussels Sprouts are no exception.
Roasted Spicy Honey Brussels Sprouts
The great thing about sweet and spicy dishes, including this simple recipe, is that YOU are in control of the spice factor. Want a bit more of a kick? Increase the amount of Sriracha, Green Pepper Sauce, and Red Pepper Flakes that you use. Want sweeter undertones? Add a bit more honey and cut back on the spice.
Please note that you may not need all of the glaze that these measurements reap. It’s all dependent on how you like your Brussels Sprouts to be cooked. So, pour with caution. The more sauce you use, the less crunch you’ll get. If you like your sprouts to be nice and saturated, use it all up! It all depends on your own personal preference. In the end, you’ll still get an insanely addictive flavor.
In total, this recipe calls for about 30 minutes of bake time. But, as we all know, not every oven is created equal. That said, take a peek in your oven every so often as you near the end to decide if the Brussels Sprouts could use a little extra time. They will be cooked through in the allotted time, but you may need to add a little more to get that nice crisp.
