A 5-Ingredient Dessert
“Sea” what five simple ingredients you need to make your own Mermaid Milkshakes:
- 1 gallon vanilla ice cream
- Milk
- Blue and pink food coloring
- Whipped cream
- Sprinkles
You can adorn your Mermaid Milkshake with whatever candy or fresh fruit floats your boat. Just make it your own and have fun with it!
This summer dessert is so simple to make!
1. Create the Mermaid Milkshake base.
Mermaid milkshakes are all about the fun blue and pink colors! Even the ice cream can be colorfully playful with a blue and pink ombre effect.
Start by putting half a gallon of ice cream into a blender. Add blue food coloring drops until you get the shade of blue you’re looking for – I used about 10 drops. You will then need to add milk to achieve a creamy consistency. Slowly add milk as you blend, pausing to scrape the sides of the blender, if needed, until all the ice cream churns with the blade of the blender. Initially, I had to pause the blender and scrape the sides with a spatula about every 5 seconds. As I added more milk and the blender began to churn the ice cream, I had to pause less frequently. When it’s ready, scoop out the milkshake into individual serving cups (halfway up the glass) and put in the freezer.
Rinse out the blender and repeat the process. This time, however, replace the blue food coloring with pink food coloring. When your pink milkshake is ready, layer a small amount on top of the blue. Swirl together the pink and the top portion of the blue milkshake. Doing so will prevent a harsh line and create a more wavy look. Then add more pink milkshake until it reaches the top of the glass.
2. Top with mermaid-colored sweets.
Generously top the pink milkshake with whipped cream. Sprinkle with purple, blue, and pink candies and sprinkles. This is where your creativity can shine! Have fun with height, texture, color, and flavors!

Notes
Home Chef Tip: Wash your blender with hot water and light soap immediately after use! If you wait until the milkshake dries, you will spend so much more time at the sink. Using the sink spray head will quickly remove food in hard-to-get-to places.
