This Honey Grapefruit Martini recipe is like a burst of late-summer sunshine in a glass. Freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, lime juice, honey, and a touch of thyme brighten this cocktail with tons of fresh, seasonal flavors and a beautiful presentation.
Can you believe summer is almost over? Kids are going back to school, the days are getting a little shorter, and we are all ready for cooler weather. But that doesn’t mean the summer fun needs to stop.
Here at the casa, we are trying to get as much as we can out of this summer. But it has been a bit of a struggle. We have been dealing with a car accident and subsequent recovery, a new home with an unknown pest control issue, and my son rolls out for basic training at the end of the month.
Needless to say it’s been nuts! Right down to my idea for this month’s SoFabFood post. Originally this recipe was going to be for boozy popsicles, because we are still battling scorching temps in Phoenix. Until our fridge went on the fritz this week!
Honey Grapefruit Martini Recipe
Thankfully it didn’t break down completely, but for some reason the freezer just isn’t completely up to speed. So my next best idea was to take those same lovely seasonal citrus flavors and turn them into this refreshing Honey Grapefruit Martini.
It was just the reminder I needed to make the most of each day we have, rather than worry about the little things that are bound to go wrong in everyday life.
The sweet honey and fresh thyme really balance out the tartness of the citrus in this cocktail. Plus you can customize the amount of sweetness depending on personal taste. I like to place a small drop of honey in the bottom of the chilled martini glass for garnish and a little extra sweetness as you sip your cocktail!
You could also make it into a sparkling mocktail by skipping the vodka or gin and simply adding sparkling water instead. Just be sure to top your mocktail instead of adding the sparkling water to your cocktail shaker, otherwise you will lose all those fun bubbles!
Ingredients
- 2 ounces vodka or gin
- 1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
- 3 ounces freshly squeezed ruby red grapefruit juice
- 1/2 tablespoon honey
- 1 sprig fresh thyme
- Ice
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a chilled cocktail shaker.
- Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled martini glass.
- Garnish with lime zest, a sprig of thyme, and a drop of honey if desired.
Notes
Home Chef Tip: To make this drink non-alcoholic, omit the vodka or gin and replace it with sparkling soda. Just be sure to top the drink with the sparkling soda rather than shaking it with all of the other ingredients to preserve the bubbles.
