Frozen Mango Margarita

Frozen Mango Margarita: A Fun Twist on a Summer Favorite!

At the start of every summer, I make a bucket list of things I want to do while the sun’s shining and the weather is warm. (Hot? Scorching? This is Texas, after all). Some bucket list items pop back up year after year. Go to the pool. Hike with the dogs. Grill everything. And of course, make margaritas.

I never used to like margaritas. Or, I should really say I didn’t like college margaritas. In college, margaritas are 40% salt, 50% tequila, 0% awesome. I learned to hate them. So I distinctly remember a time shortly after we moved to Texas sitting at a restaurant and trying my husband’s margarita and just laughing. So that’s what it’s supposed to taste like. Hello, delicious!

I think living in Fort Worth, it’s hard not to hop on the margarita train. There’s an amazing Mexican influence here and finding great margaritas (and chips and salsa and tamales and tacos) is easy peasy.

Frozen Mango Margarita

This margarita is a spin on an old classic. I used store-bought mangoes, but now that they’re coming back into season, it would be simple to buy your own fresh, cube them, and stick them in the freezer. We’re adding some triple sec for additional liquid and sweetness, and then, of course, tequila. I always like to start slow and add more as needed, but be warned! The sweetness of this frozen drink easily overpowers the alcohol, so it’s best to measure in advance.

I think the chili salt in this recipe gives the margarita exactly the kick it needs and takes it up to a fun new level. It’s unexpected, but sweet and spicy has always been a favorite flavor combo of mine and it makes for a really fantastic drink!

Author: Sarah from Drool Worthy Daily
Recipe type: Cocktail
Ingredients
  • 1 lime, sliced (for garnish)
  • 2 heaping cups frozen mango chunks
  • Ice, for blending (I used about 1 cup)
  • ½ cup tequila
  • 1 cup triple sec
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
Instructions
  1. On a plate, mix together salt and chili powder. Wet the rim of your margarita glasses with water and dip into the chili-salt. (I used a Q-tip to "even" things out. You can do the whole rim or just one end).
  2. In a blender, mix together frozen mango, ice, tequila, and triple sec until well blended. Taste and adjust to your liking.
  3. Pour into prepared glasses. Garnish with lime.
