This Frozen Honey Dew Margarita is a tequila-based summer cocktail with a generous dose of fruit and sweet and salty rim. The perfect drink to sip on after a long day, happy hour, or outdoor entertaining with friends.
Introducing your new favorite summer cocktail!
As hot summer weather approaches, I think we will all start to crave more of those refreshing summer fruits, especially melons. What’s better than turning a succulent and delicious honey dew melon into a refreshing Frozen Honey Dew Margarita? You’ll need to cut up the fruit and freeze it the night before or at least a few hours before you make the drink. If you don’t have time to freeze the fruit, you could substitute half the frozen honey dew with ice cubes, though it would dilute the flavor a bit.
Spice up the rim for happy hour!
My favorite part of this Frozen Honey Dew Margarita is actually the sweet, salty, and zesty rim. I drink it straight from the glass, no straw needed, to get some of that zesty, salty, sweet taste with each sip. It gives such a delicious kick to the drink. If you want even more kick, I would suggest adding a little chili powder or cayenne pepper to the mix.
As for the tequila, use your favorite brand to get the best result. Of course, you are welcome to adjust the amount to make a lighter or stronger drink to your taste. I used six tablespoons, which is two shots, in this recipe and it turns out pretty strong. This recipe will make enough for two, though you may not want to share.
When honey dew season is in full swing and you can get your hands on super ripe and sweet melons, you may not even need sweetener, but any liquid sweetener like simple syrup, honey, or agave nectar should work well in this recipe. I hope you will enjoy this refreshing drink and stay cool this summer!
