Learn easy expert cooking tips for making the Perfect Hard Boiled Egg every time for breakfast, salads, or snacks. No more grey or undercooked yolks with this simple recipe!
How do you make a Hard Boiled Egg? Making the perfect hard boiled eggs every time is easier than it may seem. There’s a simple method which will create the perfect hard boiled egg each and every time. Whether you’re making a salad, slicing, or serving them whole, you’ll want a nice looking, perfectly cooked egg with a nice yellow yolk inside.
We’ve all been there, grey yolks after we’ve cooked our eggs. Why, oh why do we have grey yolks? The simple answer is, they’re overcooked. No one wants to make an egg salad or deviled eggs with grey yolks, and your guests likely won’t want to eat them either. Although they may be perfectly edible, the grey yolks just don’t look appetizing. A nice yellow yolk is what we want!
Overcooked is one thing, under cooked is a completely different basket of eggs. Hard boiled eggs which are under cooked are either known as medium boiled or soft boiled, depending on how under cooked they are. You won’t know that you’ve under cooked your hard boiled eggs until you open one up and see the yolk. An under cooked hard boiled egg will have a gelatinous or even runny yolk in the center.
A medium or soft boiled egg may be on the menu someday, but today we’re making the perfect hard boiled egg and this is not it!
Rather than overcooking or under cooking your eggs, you can use this fool-proof method for cooking the Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs every time.
- Place eggs in bottom of pan.
- Fill pan with water, about 1 inch above the top of the eggs.
- Place on stove top and heat on high heat, uncovered.
- Once the water comes to a full rolling boil, cover pot, turn off burner.
- Time for 10 minutes exactly while the pot is covered and still on the burner (heat should be turned off).
- When the timer sounds, immediately remove eggs from water and place in ice bath.
- Wait until the eggs have completely cooled before peeling.
