Hands down, this version of the Brass Monkey Beer Cocktail is the best you’ll ever try. Also called a Beermosa, this simple dinner or brunch cocktail is a combination of wheat beer, orange juice, and bitters.
The simplest beer cocktail you’ll ever love!
For this version of the Brass Monkey, I’d recommend using a mild wheat beer like Blue Moon or Shock Top. Wheat beer is simply any beer made up of at least 50% wheat, which is much higher than other beers. While styles can differ, look for a mild variety for this recipe. You can also make a version with a non-alcoholic beer if you like.
Tips for making the perfect Beermosa:
As for the orange juice, make sure to use a pulp-free kind. If you’re making your own juice from fresh oranges, be sure to strain it through a fine mesh strainer before using. You don’t want pulp floating in your cocktail! Chill the orange juice in the fridge, if possible. This will keep your finished drink nice and cold.
As the name suggests, the bitters add a little punch of a bitter, sour flavor that pairs nicely with the sweet orange juice. Look for Angostura bitters for this recipe. If you’re feeling really ambitious, you can attempt to make your own, although the process takes a few weeks! It might be best to leave this one to the pros.
I like to make this cocktail in a large pint glass, but you can also divide this drink into two smaller glasses if you’re serving it for brunch.
Ingredients
- ¼ cup pulp-free orange juice, chilled
- 2 dashes bitters
- 1 12-oz wheat beer
Instructions
- Add the orange juice and bitters to the glass and mix.
- Top the orange juice with beer and stir very gently.
Notes
Home Chef Tip: If you want a stouter drink for happy hour, add 1 oz dark rum and 1 oz vodka to the mix!

Orange juice makes this the perfect brunch cocktail!
As you can imagine, the orange juice makes this a perfect brunch drink. Think of it as a twist on a mimosa with beer instead of champagne. More classic versions of a Brass Monkey typically include hard liquor, so this can be a good option if you want something a bit lighter.
