This Green Chile Bloody Maria takes your favorite brunch cocktail south of the border for a spicy kick. A green chile and tomato juice base is mixed with tequila and all the fixings for a drink that will make you long for a fiesta.
Sunday is hands down my favorite day of the week. It’s when we visit the farmers market, relax as a family, and have Sunday brunch with the casa crew. There really is no better way to start the week!
Typically we all meet up at our favorite local Mexican joint for fresh cornbread and their amazing Bloody Mary bar, but with the kid away at basic training, we have been cutting back on market trips which means fewer trips to the old neighborhood.
Green Chile Bloody Maria Recipe
On our off weekends, I have been whipping up my own Bloody Mary bar at home. I am pretty sure my husband, Paul, is more interested in the snacks we pile on as garnishes but hey, each to their own right!
Because I love to put a southwest spin on just about everything like I did with this Grilled Pineapple Jalapeño Mojito, tequila was the only way to go with my latest concoction. That’s what makes this a Bloody Maria instead of a Bloody Mary. On my list to try are also the Michelada and a Bloody Geisha which use beer and sake respectively instead of vodka.
All in all, whichever liquor you choose to use with this green chile mixer is going to be absolutely outstanding. And while I used fresh roasted Hatch chiles in the mix, don’t be afraid that canned chiles are going to disappoint. Either way is delicious! Smoky with just a hint of heat.
Ingredients
- 3-4 cups tomato juice
- 1 14-ounce can Mexican diced tomatoes
- 1 5-ounce can green chiles
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 2-3 cloves garlic
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1/2 tablespoon cumin
- Tequila
- Desired garnish
Instructions
- Add all ingredients except tequila to a blender. Blend until smooth.
- Add desired amount of mix and tequila to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously.
- Serve in chilled glasses over ice, garnish as desired.
Notes
Home Chef Tip ~ For a thicker Bloody mix, use flavored canned tomatoes in addition to tomato juice. Add 1 can diced tomatoes for every 3 cups tomato juice and blend until smooth.
