One of the most iconic dishes in New Mexico is the Green Chile Cheeseburger. This food truck style burger is piled high with diced green chiles, giving you a New Mexico inspired cheeseburger that delivers an unforgettable balance of savory and spice.
Food Truck Burgers at their best!
Food trucks are a great way to try unique and tasty meals made by people passionate about great food. Throughout the US, food trucks serve up tacos, pizzas, burgers, and more to hungry patrons in convenient locations.
In New Mexico, where green chile is the state vegetable, residents put green chile on everything. One of the best dishes using green chiles is the iconic Green Chile Cheeseburger which is served at some of the best food trucks in the state.
How to Make this Food Truck Style Cheeseburger:
It is super easy to make food truck-inspired green chile cheeseburgers at home. You just need a few ingredients, about 30 minutes, and an adventurous palate!
The first step in making these cheeseburgers is to prepare the green chile. If you have access to fresh green chile, that’s great! Simply dice up roasted green chiles. If you don’t have fresh chiles, canned chiles are a great option too! You can find mild or hot diced green chiles at most grocery stores in the ethnic food section.
Each burger gets about an ounce of green chile, so combine four ounces diced chiles with a teaspoon of salt, and stir well.
Next, you’ll take one pound of ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and form into four patties. Warm a tablespoon of oil in a griddle or sauté pan over medium-high heat. Cook the burgers until browned on both sides and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side. During the last minute of cooking, top each burger with a slice of cheese.
To assemble this New Mexico inspired cheeseburger:
Add mayonnaise to the bottom bun. Place cheesy patty on top. Most importantly, pile an ounce of green chile (or however much you like) onto the patty.
Last but not least, finish the cheeseburger with the top bun.
These burgers pair wonderfully with french fries, but for an unusual spin, try Grilled Mexican Corn on the Cob!
