The 4th of July is right around the corner and whether you’re heading to a backyard BBQ or lounging on the beach, these Star Shaped Tortilla Chips will be the perfect addition to your spread!
When I think of 4th of July celebrations, I think of family and friends gathering together; and when I think of friends and family gathering together, I think of chips and dip. Social gatherings = chips and dip.
Chips and dip is a staple at every gathering no matter how big or small. Guests gather around the food table, reaching across one another to try this dip and that, enjoying themselves too much to grab a plate.
That’s exactly how it is at my family’s 4th of July celebration. It doesn’t matter if we are at my childhood home splashing around in the pool or at the beach nearby with our toes in the sand. Thankfully chips and dip are super easy to take with you wherever you go!
Star Shaped Tortilla Chips Recipe
For 4th of July this year, I want to bring chips and dip to the party, but with a twist. Instead of getting chips at the store that have already been dyed red and blue, I decided to make homemade star shaped tortilla chips!
The recipe was super simple and all I needed was a package of tortilla shells, a cookie cutter and Mexican seasonings. I’m a strong believer that Taco Tuesday should be repeated multiple times in one week so I already had all of the ingredients in my kitchen.
I love this simple hack on a traditional favorite because it’s so unexpected! The chips are crunchy, have a little bit of a kick (from the seasoning), and are the perfect shape for scooping up my favorite guacamole recipe. I also used them to scoop up corn salsa and regular tomato salsa, there’s no discrimination here. Give me all the dips!
Ingredients
- 20 (5 inch) tortillas
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 Tbsp lime juice
- Mexican Seasoning
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
- Line three baking sheets with parchment paper or spray with non-stick cooking spray.
- Place a tortilla on a cutting board and use the cookie cutter to make a star shaped tortillas (you may need to rock the cookie cutter back and forth ensuring that all edges were cut cleanly).
- Place the star shaped tortillas on the baking sheet.
- Combine olive oil and lime juice in a small bowl and brush onto each star.
- Bake for 5 minutes, turn, bake for another 5 minutes.
Notes
Home Chef Tip: Sprinkle your favorite Mexican seasoning onto the stars after you brush them with olive oil and before you put them in the oven. The spicier the chip, the better!
