Grilled cheese is a classic lunch favorite of many kids, but it can easily be elevated into a gourmet sandwich for adults. This White Cheddar Salami Fig Grilled Cheese is a deli-style meal ready in about 15 minutes!
This grilled cheese is inspired by some of my favorite cheese board pairings – fig preserves, white cheddar, and hard salami. I can’t be the only one who enjoys dipping cheddar and salami in fig, right? Combine these ingredients with a delicious whole grain bread for a mouthwatering combination.
Perfect Grilled Cheese
Start with a hearty sliced bread from the bakery. I picked a whole grain with sunflower seeds to bring in a nutty flavor that tastes amazing toasted. Use real butter to toast the bread until it’s golden and dark. The longer you toast the bread, the better it will hold up, giving it a nice and crispy finish.
Be generous with the white cheddar cheese – it’s the star of the sandwich, after all. Layer the salami between cheese layers to help hold it in place better. No one wants run-away salami! Purchase small salami rounds or cut large pieces into smaller pieces to make eating (and cutting) the sandwich more enjoyable as well. Savor this meal on its own or serve it up with a nice fresh arugula salad and a glass of wine for a gourmet meal. This is perfect for casual Tuesday, date night, or entertaining.
Be generous with the fig preserves, they add the perfect amount of sweetness to the grilled cheese.
