I was a single mom for 15 years to an amazing son who is now serving in the US Army. Then four years ago, I bumped into this moody guy who is my complete opposite. We have a great backstory, but I won’t bore you with that!
Needless to say our new marriage has happily weathered kids leaving home, promotions, job losses, moves, and building my blog into a business. We were hoping for more stability in 2017, but it looks like another move might be around the corner. Makes me pull-my-hair-out crazy, you know. Let’s face it folks, it’s easy to lose your grip a little during the hustle and bustle of the holidays.
Spiced Plum Brandy Recipe
Which leads me to this Spiced Plum Brandy recipe. One of the things I have learned while dreaming up new recipes is to slow down and enjoy the creative process. It helps me feel grounded when things get too nutty around the casa kitchen!
I really debated whether to make a new mixed drink for this post. Maybe a seasonal plum rosemary sparkler with an herby simple syrup and a splash of bubbly to make it festive. But this sweet, spiced concoction deserves to shine all on her own. So for now, our Spiced Plum Brandy is best served with slow sipping in mind. A moment of reflection to count our blessings and embrace those pesky quirks that make us all unique.
Ingredients
- 1 pint quality brandy
- 3-4 fresh plums, pits removed and cut into wedges
- 1 cinnamon stick
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a large lidded jar. Keep closed in refrigerator for 1 week, shaking occasionally. Remove fruit and cinnamon stick, discard.
- Store infused brandy in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one month.
Notes
Home Chef Tip: If you are in the mood for something warm, gently heat up the brandy in a small saucepan over low heat for a comforting hot toddy. High heat is not good for alcohol so skip the microwave and do it properly. Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and a dash of honey to compliment the fruitiness.
