This Orange Spinach Basil Green Juice is a straightforward introduction to the world of green beverages! It requires no fancy equipment to make, and only 3 ingredients. Sip on it as is, or add vodka to it for a cocktail with a healthy twist.
The first time I was offered a glass of green juice, I turned my nose up at it. I wondered aloud, “Why would anyone want to drink a salad?”.
I tried it in spite of my hesitation.
That first sip was bitter, a pungent mix of dark greens and aromatic parsley, with the slightest hint of lemon to offset the bitterness. I liked it (a little), but not enough to keep drinking it. I think that this is the way most people feel when they first try green juice.
Fast-forward a few years, and now, it would be hard for me to live without it! Part of the reason for that is that I have been on a wellness journey that entails eating a (mostly) plant-based diet. Another reason for that, relative to the juice specifically, is that I have found flavor combinations that work for me; they taste great while doing great things for my body. This Orange Spinach Basil Green Juice is one of them.
Orange Spinach Basil Green Juice Recipe
I learned this recipe from my sister who lives a raw/vegan lifestyle. You could say that she is my guru of sorts and someone who, in general, has been a tremendous inspiration to me. This is the juice blend that she uses to convert any naysayers in the crowd. My hope is that if you are one of them (much like my earlier self), it will convert you too!
Please note that the term “juice” is used loosely here. While this drink does have the consistency of juice, you can make it in your blender; no juicer required! It consists of only three ingredients that you might already have in your refrigerator: orange juice, baby spinach, and basil leaves.
Citrus is in season right now, so if you do feel like getting adventurous with the fresh options available, try swapping grapefruit or blood orange in favor of the plain orange juice. You might also like rosemary in the place of the basil for a more herbal taste.
I have a feeling that no matter which way you choose to go with this recipe, it will open you up to an entirely new world of – green – possibilities!
- 1 cup orange juice, fresh squeezed or from a container
- 1 cup packed baby spinach leaves
- 6-8 fresh basil leaves
- 3-4 ice cubes (optional)
- Place all ingredients in a blender and pulse until smooth. Sip and enjoy!
Home Chef Tip: Turn this juice recipe into a healthful - green - cocktail by adding 1 ounce of vodka to 3 ounces of the Orange, Spinach, Basil mixture. Serve over ice, and garnish with an orange slice or basil leaves, if desired.
