Give your favorite summertime, thirst-quenching drink a makeover when you make this unique and refreshing Lavender Lemonade. With just four ingredients and 10 minutes of your time, you can have an amazing lavender-infused drink that’s perfect for summer!
Oh summer! We have waited for summer for a long time here in the northeast. Now that it is here, it has been gorgeous. Perfect sunny days, filled with picnics in parks, hikes, days at the beach, and barbecues with family. With the hot days come the traditional summer drinks – slushies, iced teas, and of course – the classic lemonade. For me, lemonade is the perfect summer drink because I love lemon treats. Since I make lemonade all throughout summer, I came up with a few delicious flavor variations. One of my favorites is this Lavender Lemonade.
If you have never had Lavender Lemonade, you are in for a treat! Fresh lemons pair perfectly with lavender flowers to make a very fresh, fragrant, and refreshing drink. The lavender infusion in the lemonade is not overpowering, but adds a subtle delicious flavor that I cannot get enough of.
If you are lucky enough to have fresh lavender, you can infuse hot water with a small bunch of fresh lavender flowers. But since most of us do not have access to fresh lavender, I make my recipe with dried lavender flowers. This way, I can make Lavender Lemonade any time of the year instead of relying on the lavender harvest. One of the bonuses of making this Lavender Lemonade is that your kitchen smells incredible after making the lavender water infusion!
This Lavender Lemonade is very easy to make from fresh lemons.
Home Chef Tip: Before juicing the lemons, use a zester or a grater to zest or peel the outer yellow rind of the lemons. Save the lemon peel/zest for future use, such as infusing olive oil, making citrus finishing salt or finishing sugar, or making lemon-herb butter. Trust me, you will not regret the extra minute it takes to peel the lemons when you have homemade lemony condiments!
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons dried lavender
- 3 cups water, divided
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-5 lemons)
Instructions
- Heat 2 cups of water in the microwave for about 1 minute, or until it is steaming hot.
- Carefully stir in the dried lavender and allow it to infuse the water for at least 10 minutes, or until the water cools.
- Strain the lavender water into a large pitcher.
- Add the rest of the ingredients (1 cup water, sugar, lemon juice) to the pitcher and stir well to dissolve the sugar.
- Chill in the fridge, and serve cold over ice.
Notes
Home Chef Tip: The amount of sugar needed will vary depending on how tart the lemons are. Start with 1/2 cup sugar and add more if needed.
