Brie Challah Bowl
Recipe type: Appetizer
Serves: 4 challah bowls
- 2 cups warm water
- ½ cup sugar
- 3.5 tsp yeast (or 1 and ½ packets)
- 2 eggs (plus one for egg wash)
- ½ cup oil
- ½ tbsp salt
- 9 cups of flour (and more on hand if needed)
- Start with proofing your yeast by adding the warm water, yeast, and sugar to your mixer bowl and let it sit until bubbly, around 10-15 minutes.
- Next add your eggs, oil, salt, and half of your flour to the mixer, and start mixing with the paddle attachment.
- Keep adding flour until the dough pulls away from the side, waiting for it to get fully incorporated each time.
- Turn out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth.
- Place in an oiled bowl to rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Braid and then let rise for another 30 minutes to an hour.
- Bake at 350ºF for 25-30 minutes.
- Once baked, cut off the top and middle and place a wheel of brie inside with its top removed as well.
- Wrap in foil and cook an additional 20 minutes or until the brie is melted.
