Looking to step up your outdoor grilling game? This sweet and tangy Blueberry BBQ Sauce recipe is the answer. Homemade sauces are the key to delicious budget-friendly outdoor entertaining.
Growing up, I was personally never a huge fan of blueberries. Sure, I’d eat them if they were mixed into something, but never just plain blueberries. Fast forward to me having my own children, and now I’m constantly buying blueberries for my girls. I have come to enjoy them as well. It’s amazing how a few years can change your taste buds. Moving to New Jersey, the blueberry capital of the world, has definitely made me appreciate those small bursts of goodness. The girls will eat blueberries fresh, frozen, puréed; it really doesn’t matter, but they are always begging for more.
Amp up your outdoor grilling routine!
Because of their love for blueberries, I try to incorporate them in my recipes whenever I can. One thing that I’ve been trying to do more of since we purchased our home is learning my way around the grill. I’ve always loved grilling, but before being a homeowner, it was pretty much burgers and hot dogs. Since moving into our home, I’ve done so much more, from pizza to grilled peaches and beyond. I’ve been working on grilling fruits recently, however, blueberries are really something you can’t just throw on the grill.
Make budget-friendly homemade sauces!
I decided to come up with this Blueberry BBQ Sauce recipe, using our infamous homemade BBQ sauce. Our BBQ sauce is sweet and savory with a hint of spice. It’s literally the most perfect BBQ sauce ever. I decided to up the sweetness level of our standard sauce by adding in blueberries. The end result was amazing. Everyone gobbled it up. We’ve put it on chicken ourselves, but it would also be amazing on pork chops, in the slow cooker with chicken or pork tenderloin for pulled sandwiches, or basted over grilled fruit like pineapple.
So go ahead, grab your blueberries, and let’s get to grilling!
