I based this recipe off of one my mom used to make for my family when I was growing up. I have many great memories of our family eating dinner together around the dining room table, eating chili, and discussing the events of the day.
30-Minute Turkey Chili Recipe: A One Pot Meal
The foundation of this chili is ground turkey meat. Turkey is a great low-fat alternative to ground beef and you can purchase it in different varieties, like Italian sausage flavor, at some supermarkets.
Cans of diced tomatoes and beans are added to the cooked turkey meat. The nice thing about using canned ingredients in this recipe (you can definitely use fresh if you want) is that you don’t need to take the time to prep them. Simply open the can, drain, and mix with the cooked ground turkey. You can save money on groceries by purchasing the canned ingredients in bulk when they are on sale and storing them in your pantry.
I used a California veggie mix which is broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots in this chili. The vegetable mix is sold in the frozen food aisle of your local grocery store. Using frozen veggies will save you time and money in comparison to fresh veggies which have a shorter shelf life and need to be peeled and chopped.
I like to add one packet of mild chili seasoning to my chili, as I don’t like it too spicy. Fans of spicy food can use a spicier seasoning or add hot sauce. My favorite part of this chili is the added taco seasoning. Add a couple teaspoons to the chili for a fun spin on a classic chili recipe.
Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground turkey meat
- 1 16-oz can of diced tomatoes
- 1 12-oz can of kidney beans
