This one of a kind Tangerine Dream Cocktail is a creamy, frothy concoction made with fresh tangerines, rum, milk, and vanilla that will have you yearning for warm spring weather.
With the holidays behind us, my heart yearns for warm spring afternoons and delicious, sunny-inspired cocktails like this Tangerine Dream Cocktail. We are lucky to have mild weather this time of year in Arizona and different types of citrus fruits are popping up all over the farmers market. Tangerines are a favorite of mine and make a delicious substitute in your average OJ based beverages.
When I was a kid, having an Orange Julius was a treat we looked forward to. The closest location was over an hour away at the mall in a neighboring town so we only had them when the whole family went for an all day shopping trip. My favorite was when we would go in the spring as the snow was melting, with thoughts of summer vacation tumbling through our adolescent minds.
Over the weekend, we picked up a variety of citrus, everything from tart grapefruits to tangy lemons and a bag of sweet, juicy tangerines, at the market. The sun was shining, the company was good, and feelings of nostalgia tugged at me. I just knew a boozy version of a childhood favorite would make me a very happy girl!
The great thing about this cocktail is you can switch it up by using your favorite citrus juice. Or simply omit the alcohol and make a sweet treat the whole family can enjoy. Either way, my advice is to use fresh-squeezed juice. It takes a little more time, but the taste is amazing.
Whole milk adds just the right amount of creaminess for my taste, but you could easily use something lighter. Have issues with dairy? Swap the milk for your favorite nut milk or non-dairy substitute.
