Stop a Pot from Boiling Over with Wooden Spoons
If you’ve ever wondered if this kitchen hack was a myth or just some old wives’ tale, we’re here to tell you that you actually can stop a pot from boiling over with wooden spoons. Here is a little “science” as to how this works.
When the pot begins to boil, place a wooden spoon (or two if it’s a large pot) across the top of the pot. The wooden spoon, because it is cooler than 100ºC, pops the bubbles as they rise not allowing the pot to boil over. This will give you a bit of time to turn the pot down before you have that huge mess that happens way too often.
Just remember, if you leave the spoon on the pot a long time, the spoon will heat up and the bubbles will no longer retreat, so move quickly with this!
