Apple Pomegranate Crumble
Hello again, this is Sara Maniez from Life’s Little Sweets! I love incorporating seasonal ingredients into my recipes and this Apple Pomegranate Crumble is no exception. This dessert is actually a mashup of an idea I had and I took inspiration from my previous recipes. I took my favorite apple pie filling recipe and paired it with my favorite crumble topping recipe to make this delicious combination.
One of the great things about this Apple Pomegranate Crumble is that you have that warm, incredible, apple-pomegranate filling, the crunch of the topping, and then fresh pomegranate seeds and whipped cream to lighten the whole dessert. It’s a symphony of satisfying fall flavors that will take you right through the holidays.
When you go grocery shopping or take a trip to the orchard this fall, pick up some Granny Smith apples or another variety that holds up when it bakes and then make this dessert. I think this Apple Pomegranate Crumble can only be improved by a warm blanket and a movie with your loved ones.
You can also bring this one-pan dessert to your next gathering, holiday party, or make it for your family at Thanksgiving or Christmas. Apples and warm spices are always a crowd pleaser.
If you like sweet and tart seasonal flavors, you surely will not be disappointed!
Home Chef Tip: In addition to Granny Smith apples, you can also use Gala, Honeycrisp, Winesap, Braeburn, or Cortland apples. The more apple varieties you use together will give this dessert a more complex flavor profile.
I just love Granny Smiths, so they are my “go-to” baking apple because their tartness counteracts the sweetness of the sugars in the recipe.
I hope you enjoy this Apple Pomegranate Crumble as much as my family and I do!

Ingredients
- butter for greasing baking pan
- 3 lbs of Gala Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 pomegranate, seeded, divided (half for baking, half for topping)
- ½ cup granulated white sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice or 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup whole oats
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup of unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- ¼ cup walnuts
- Toppings for serving:
- Vanilla Ice Cream *optional
- Whipped Cream (2 tablespoons confectioner’s sugar, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 pint heavy whipping cream - whip to stiff peaks)
- A dusting of confectioner’s sugar
- Fresh pomegranate seeds
Instructions
- Grease a 13” x 9” x 2” pan and set aside.
- Preheat the oven to 400ºF and make sure there is a rack positioned in the center of the oven.
- Combine 3 lbs of apple slices, 1/2 cup granulated white sugar, 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt. Transfer mixture to the greased baking pan. Sprinkle 1 cup (1/2 of your pomegranate) of fresh pomegranate seeds over the mixture. Set pan aside.
- To mix the crumble topping, combine 1 cup whole oats, 1 cup dark brown sugar, 2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 cup of unsalted butter (melted and cooled,) and 1/4 cup walnuts. You want to have large crumbs when everything is mixed. Spread the crumb topping over the apple-pomegranate filling. Bake for 1 hour. Check 20 minutes before it's finished. If you feel like the top is getting too brown, you can always put a loose foil tent on top (poke holes in the foil, so it can vent).
- While the dish is baking, you can make the homemade whipped cream. Combine 2 tablespoons confectioner’s sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla extract, 1 pint heavy whipping cream, and whip to stiff peaks.
- When the crumble is done, allow it to cool until it's warm, serve with fresh whipped cream and enjoy!
